List of Really Useful Plugins For jQuery Developers

jQuery – The “write less, do more” JavaScript library is great for rapid web development. New components, tools and applications are literally popping up on daily basis. Numerous plugins are also available to help jQuery developers. W3Avenue has compiled a list of jQuery plugins that you (jQuery Developer) may find really useful.

Following list of jQuery plugins is different from other lists which usually features UI components . This is a list of extensions & utility plugins that we feel jQuery developers can utilize in development of their own jQuery components, tools and applications.


  • PeriodicalUpdater
    Adds ability to loads content at specified intervals, and if the content being pulled doesn’t change, it gradually increases interval to saves bandwidth and reduce the CPU usage on the client’s machine.
  • BlockUI
    Lets you simulate synchronous behavior when using AJAX, it will prevent user activity with the page (or part of the page) until it is deactivated. BlockUI adds elements to the DOM  to give it both the appearance and behavior of blocking user interaction.
  • Ajax Manager
    Helps you to manage Ajax requests and responses (i.e. abort requests, block requests, order responses).

Animation & Effects

  • Color Animation
    Adds the ability to do color animations to jQuery 1.2, and newer.
  • Background Position Animation
    Adds the ability to do background-position animations to jQuery 1.2, and newer.
  • Easing Plugin
    Adds advanced easing options; uses Robert Penner’s easing equations for the transitions.
  • CSS Class Based Animations
    Keep presentation where it should be and just animate to and from CSS classes.
  • ScrollTo
    Adds ability to scroll animation to elements or the window itself. Also check LocalScroll (add a scroll effect, to any anchor navigation. Ideal for slides, table of contents, etc.) and SerialScroll (to animate any kind of sequential navigation(prev/next)).

Charts & Graphs

  • jqPlot
    Pure JavaScript plotting plugin for creating client side charts and graphs
  • Google Charts
    Wrapper for Google API charts.


  • ThemeScript
    Allows theming of $(document).ready startup code, so that subthemes can override look and feel.
  • Corner
    Allows you to control the corner style such as round, bevel, notch, bite, etc.


  • Preload CSS Images
    Automatically preloads all images referenced in CSS files.
  • IncludeMany
    For including many external JavaScript, CSS and HTML files simultaneously in runtime. This plugin provides callback for each of the files and in addition there is finallyCallback which will be raised after all files are loaded and all callbacks are done.
  • Lazy Load
    Delays loading of images in (long) web pages. Images outside of viewport (visible part of web page) wont be loaded before user scrolls to them. This is opposite of image preloading.


  • FontAvailable
    Checks if a client browser supports a given font.
  • Font Effect
    Add some effect to html text; available effects are (for now) Outline, Shadow, Gradient and Mirror.


  • Masked Input
    Allows user to more easily enter fixed width input where you would like them to enter the data in a certain format (dates,phone numbers, etc).
  • Really Simple Validation
    Lets you add JavaScript validation to your forms quickly and with very little effort. No programming experience is necessary, but it’s fully extensible to allow programmers to augment the built-in validation rules with their own.
  • Editable
    Converts any tag (span, div, p, etc) to text input, password, textarea, drop-down list. You can easily extend it by adding your own input type using its editableFactory object.
  • FormClear
    Allows you to clear the default value of text, password, and textarea fields when clicked.
  • Form Extensions
    It’s a set of methods for common form-related tasks, this plugin aim to give more fluent API and automate common tasks.


  • Flick
    Adds Apple iPod/iPhone (firmware 2.0+) flick/scroll functionality to jQuery. Use built in Touch methods including ontouchstart, ontouchend and ontouchmove.
  • Touch
    Adds Apple iPod/iPhone (firmware 2.0+) touch functionality to jQuery. Use built in Touch methods including ontouchstart, ontouchend, ontouchmove, ongesturestart, ongesturechange and ongestureend.


  • jMaps
    Provides a really easy API to create and manage multiple Google maps on any page.

Media (Audio / Video)

  • jMedia
    For unobtrusive, accessible and flexible multi-media embedding.
  • jQuery Media Plugin
    Supports unobtrusive conversion of standard markup into rich media content. It can be used to embed virtually any media type, including Flash, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, Real Player, MP3, Silverlight, PDF and more, into a web page. The plugin converts an element (usually an <a>) into a <div> which holds the object, embed or iframe tags necessary to render the media content.
  • jYouTube
    Takes any YouTube video URL or video ID as first parameter and thumbnail size (big or small) as the second parameter. Utility returns that video’s screenshot URL.
  • Page Sound Enabler
    Cross browser, page background sound extension.


  • Right Mouse
    Enables you to detect events triggered by the right mouse button. There is also a built-in method to disable browser context menus.
  • jGesture
    For detecting mouse gestures. Enable your application with the standard gestures or create your own.
  • Mouse Wheel
    Adds mouse wheel support for your application! Just call mousewheel to add the event and call unmousewheel to remove the event.

RSS / ATOM Feeds

  • Google Feed
    Wraps the jQuery syntax around the Google AJAX Feed API.
  • jFeed
    Generic RSS/ATOM feed parser. jFeed currently parses RSS 0.91, 0.92, 1.0, 2.0 and Atom 1.0 feeds.


  • Twitter API
    Retrieves and returns JavaScript object with user details such as followers & following counts, full name, homepage URL, etc.
